About this site
Düsseldorf Explained is an independent, community-style guide for people moving to and living in Düsseldorf. It exists because most official information about the city is in formal German, scattered across departments, and assumes you already know how the system works.
What this site is
- An English-language primer on the most common bureaucratic processes you will encounter.
- A pointer toward the right office, the right form and the right question to ask.
- A small effort to demystify the cultural quirks of a city that rewards being prepared.
What this site is not
- Legal, financial, medical or tax advice. For decisions of any consequence, talk to a qualified professional.
- An official source. Confirm anything important with the relevant German authority before acting on it.
- Affiliated with the City of Düsseldorf, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia or the federal government.

The format of this guide is inspired by other community resources that have helped countless newcomers navigate German cities. All content here, however, is written specifically for Düsseldorf from scratch.
